bittersweet rumours - a tribute to fleetwood mac
ft. the richland rock orchestra!
What?
The first Richland Rock Orchestra concert was simply titled "A Bittersweet Symphony" due to its inclusion of the Verve's song by the same name. Since then, the term has been used in most of our group's concert names.
This year, we pay tribute to one of the most iconic albums of all time, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. The album went 21x platinum in the US, sold over 40 million copies worldwide, and is the 9th best selling album of all time!
If this is your first time doing the event, the concept is simple: the rock orchestra is a rock band with the addition of our chamber strings group, Del Borgo. This ensemble has been working on this music for months already and we need to audition for the missing piece, the singers!
When?
Unlike musicals and theater events, this show has far less rehearsal for the singers and we encourage your independence in working through the song as a team if your song has more than one singer or backup singers. In fact, if you are selected, we expect that you and any backup singers will learn your parts for the show and be ready to sing them at the first orchestra rehearsals listed below. If you are assigned a song for the show, you may choose your own backup singers for your song. We would like to hear you sing your song memorized and work with you at least once prior to April 30th if you are selected to perform in the show! April 30th and May 2 will be your official rehearsal with the rock orchestra. Prior to this, you should coordinate a time with Mr. Easler or another director to review your song. You are also welcome to stay and rehearse any time an adult is available to stay after school and, of course, free to rehearse on your own time.
Mandatory Dates
There will be a small selection of dates which will be mandatory. They are:
Tues, April 30: 5-7 PM - Half of the songs will be rehearsed with Del Borgo at this rehearsal.
Thurs, May 2: 5-7 PM - The other half of the songs will be rehearsed with Del Borgo at this rehearsal.
Sun, May 5 - Wed, May 8: 5-8 PM - Tech Rehearsals
May 9, 10, 11: 7 PM - Shows!
Audition Songs
For the audition, you may sing ANY song off of the album with a karaoke track. We will likely not have you sing the whole song and if you want to do more than one to show your range, you may.
Recommendations (male/female can sing ANY song). Some are duets as well. You may choose ANY song on the Rumours album as well as Everywhere, Gypsy, Landslide, Edge of Seventeen, or Silver Springs. They are all great and will all work! Here are some recommendations if you don't know where to start!
Originally lead by male singer: Second Hand News, Go Your Own Way
Originally lead by female singer: Gold Dust Woman, Songbird, Everywhere
Duets: I Don't Wanna Know, The Chain (sing either part)
Karaoke Practice Tracks
You will audition with one of the karaoke tracks available on the YouTube playlist here.
There are tracks for all of the songs of the show.
For reference, the entire Rumours album and the additional songs of Everywhere, Gypsy, and Silver Springs can be easily found on YouTube or any music streaming app.
